About Emily Stewart (she/they)
Owner, Black Rock Music Therapy Services
Board-Certified Music Therapist
Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist - Addictions
Hello, and welcome! My name is Em, and I am the joyful owner of Black Rock Music Therapy Services.
I believe that each person has an important story to tell about their lives; how they define themselves, their role in their families and communities, the struggles they have been through, and their hopes for the future. Music is deeply connected to every person's story. We can work together to help heal your wounds, create connectivity with or without words, realize your potential, and grow to be fuller versions of ourselves with music.
I view therapy as a collaborative process that honors the expertise of each person on their lived experience. I understand the process of engaging in music as a neurological and psychological science, and as a holistic way of being.
I grew up on the traditional lands of the first people of the Reno, Nevada area, the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla and Wašišiw Ɂítdeʔ (Washoe) peoples, past and present. I am a white, married, gender fluid, queer, mildly physically disabled, educated, spiritual, middle-class person who was born in the United States to a working-class family consisting of two married parents and a younger brother. These identities make me who I am, and will be carried into the therapeutic relationship. I acknowledge the politics of my position, and the colonialist history that is the backdrop of all healing relationships and our community at large.
